SWPM Certification and Requirements
Successful completion of a course will be based on:
- Complete required individual and team assignments.
- Contribute to project team assignments.
- Take all self-tests. Self-tests are auto-graded and are for your benefit only. The percent of correct answers will NOT be used in calculating requirements for passing the course. However, you are required to take the quiz in order to self-test your knowledge.
- Respond to the threaded discussion questions weekly. You will not be graded on the strength of your answers, or the number of times you replied, but whether or not you responded to each question.
- Online students must complete all online sessions, including the Topic Presentation.
- On-site students must complete all online sessions and are only required to complete the Topic Presentation portion of the online session if they do not attend the weekly lecture.
To earn the Software Project Management Certification (SWPM) from the University of Texas at Austin's Software Quality Institute, students must:
- Complete the six courses that comprise the program, meeting all of the above requirements within a three (3) year timeframe.
- Take a final exam at the end of each course, and score at least 70% correct. The final exam is optional for students not pursuing the certification.
Other Certifications
The SWPM curriculum is designed to prepare students to pursue further certifications such as the Project Management Professional (PMP) and the Certified Software Quality Engineer (CSQE) certifications.
Course Credits
Students will earn Continuing Education Units (CEU's) for successfully completing individual courses or the full SWPM program. College credits are not earned for participating in the courses or the full SWPM program, nor are other course credits transferable to the program.
PMI Provider
The Software Quality Institute (SQI) is a Project Management Institute (PMI) Registered Education Provider (R.E.P.). Students who participate in SQI courses will earn Professional Development Units (PDUs) toward their PMP certification. In addition, the full SWPM program satisfies PMI's 35-hour project management education requirement for students who choose to take the PMI certification examination. Please see each course description for details on specify credits for each.
