Austin Software Improvement Network (A-SPIN)
SPIN (Software Process Improvement Network) is a forum for the free and open exchange of software process improvement ideas and experiences. The organization serves as a source of educational, scientific and practical information for its members, other SPIN organizations and the general software community. The Austin SPIN is affiliated with the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, the Austin Software Council, the Software Quality Institute and currently has sister SPINs in several cities across the U.S.
Presentation Overview
This talk will discuss typical teamwork problems encountered and why effective teamwork for software development is crucial. The characteristics of high performance software teams will be identified. The talk will describe the software team growth model, and will provide guidance for effective formation, alignment, performance and transition. The crucial roles needed over the development phases are identified and defined. Specific mechanisms for enhancing teamwork are described, including: the launch and alignment workshop, periodic teamwork performance reviews, groupware, conflict management practices and teamness assessments. A discussion of how to implement these principles in your organization will follow the prepared talk. This presentation is based on the material published in: Constructing Superior Software, Ch. 7, Macmillan Technical Publishing, 2000, ISBN 1-57870-147-3
