Austin Software Council Partners
With
The University Of Texas At Austin

The Austin Software Council (ASC) announces its alliance with the Center for Lifelong Engineering Education at The University of Texas at Austin (UT). The alliance will allow ASC to expand its workforce training and education programs, known as ASC "U" seminars, with support from UT. ASC "U" courses and seminars will be handled by UT effective immediately.

UT will provide ASC with professional marketing, course management and financial services to improve the quality of the ASC "U" courses and seminars, which cover areas such as leadership, software development, marketing and human resources targeted for information technology (IT) companies. The seminars are attended by business professionals representing a wide range of companies, from startup to Fortune 500.

This alliance addresses the current IT workforce shortage by allowing ASC to provide more educational content quickly and effectively to upgrade the skills of IT workers in Central Texas. The initiative for this alliance began last year, when UT approached ASC due to its strong ties to the Central Texas high-tech community. The University hoped to work more closely with this community, and felt partnering with ASC could help them accomplish this goal.

Currently, ASC also partners with UT and the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce to hold the Entrepreneurial Career fair each year. The event allows both startups and established companies in the Austin area connect with, and potentially hire, students from The University, thereby keeping graduating students in Austin, and increasing the IT talent pool in Austin.
