Hey Software Developers! - Got a big project looming and want help to build a solid, effective plan?
- Software Project HotStart will teach you how to run a facilitated planning session for starting software projects
- Learn an intense structured process for how to quickly move your team from concept to detailed project plans in about two days
- Take away templates and procedures for immediate use in your organization
- Not a substitute for formal project management (PM) training, but a quick method for getting up and running quickly with a workable plan
In the HotStart facilitators session, youll learn how to:
- recognize a HotStart opportunity
- pull a team together for an intense HotStart session
- craft a crisp, clean project objective
- build a business case supporting the project
- separate project scope from product scope
- identify and capture deliverables, work products, issues, assumptions, and risks
- create a saleable project charter to gain management support
- choose an appropriate software life cycle model and select activities
- get your team to build a usable work breakdown structure (WBS)
- sequence activities for best results
- estimate the workload for each activity
- populate a staffing plan, including a roles & responsibility matrix
- incorporate uncertainty into the project plan
- generate believable schedule dates and milestones that everyone can support
- produce a network diagram for following project progress
- handle conflict during the session
- use basic negotiating skills
- produce a basic set of project documents to define and control the project
COURSE APPROACH This approach is designed to provide the slightly experienced project manager with a practical, step-by-step method and project planning templates to get a project up and running in a matter of days, not weeks. It is suitable as a hands-on introduction to a formal certificate program in software project management, where breadth and depth would be added for management and software engineering techniques to help the PM understand the background and fine points of managing software development projects for producing quality products.
