Description:
Software estimating is a challenge, especially for today's non-traditional development methods. This course presents an overview of the software estimating process, focusing on how to apply estimating principles to projects of any size and with any development method.
Objective:
To introduce the principles of software estimating and show how to apply them on real projects.
Prerequisites:
Participants should have software project experience and be familiar with the basic steps of their software development process.
Class Format:
The course consists of lectures and exercises. The exercises are intended for teams of 4-6 people. Teams are formed during the class and each team is selected to provide a variety of backgrounds and experience.

- Exercise - Using Wideband Delphi

- Estimating Effort
- Exercise - Estimating Effort using a parametric model
- Estimating Schedule Length

- Converting effort estimates to cost estimates
- Negotiating to reach an acceptable estimate
Exercises:
Exercises are based on a hypothetical project provided by the instructor. As an option, with advance notice and some special preparation, the course can utilize real work projects provided by groups of participants.

Attendance Policy
A 90% attendance rate is required in order to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and certificates of completion.

Cancellation Policy
A full refund, less a $100.00 processing fee, will be given for all cancellations or transfers if notification is received on or before two weeks prior to the beginning of the course. Refunds will not be given for cancellations received after this date. Substitutions may be made anytime prior to the first day of class. The CLEE programs are subject to cancellation if too few people enroll, in which case a full refund will be given.
