Many ethics training sessions and modules provide an overview of codes of ethics or standards of ethical conduct with guidelines on how to apply them in different situations. This session takes a different approach to ethics and “being ethical.” It offers an approach to resolving ethical problems in which it is not at all clear what the solution is, what the choices are, or even what standards apply. It assumes that an engineer’s most important asset in resolving an ethical problem is the ability to think creatively about the problem and to generate options. In other words, it takes a design approach to ethical problems. It also approaches ethical problems not only as situations that call for the application of rules, but more importantly as situations in which an engineer is responsible to a community of constituents as well as his/her own ethical standards.
This two hour session will cover the following:
- An overview of the basic tenets of Engineering Ethics and the ethical obligations of Engineers.
- A design-based model of Engineering Ethics that will enable engineers to:
Identify and articulate ethical problems. When possible, anticipate and avoid ethical problems. Generate options for resolving ethical problems.
A light breakfast will be provided. Instructional session is two hours in length.

Attendance Policy
A 90% attendance rate is required in order to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and certificates of completion.
|
Cancellation Policy
A refund, less a $40.00 processing fee, will be given for all cancellations or transfers if notification is received on or before two weeks prior to the beginning of the course. Refunds will not be given for cancellations received after this date. The CLEE programs are subject to cancellation if too few people enroll, in which case a full refund will be given.
