Course Description

Distillation is the most prevalent unit operation in the Oil and Chemicals Industry. It is also a significant contributor ton the capital and operating costs of plants and it is a key operation in dictating reliability and availability of assets. Because of its prevalence and relevance, effective and practical know-how of Distillation is an indispensable tool in the kit of a process engineer. This course is designed to provide such training.

The course will cover the fundamentals of Distillation, Thermodynamics, Equipment design and operations, troubleshooting, debottlenecking, auxiliaries, etc and is geared towards process engineers with some experience but needing strength in operations, design and development of distillation technology.

Agenda:

Monday, October 23 (8am – 5pm)

Morning: Review of Distillation fundamentals, terminology, phase equilibria, etc.

Afternoon: Distillation Equipment simulation, hydraulics, mass transfer

Tuesday, October 24 (8am – 5pm)

Morning: Distillation Equipment, trays, packings, new devices, design the limit

Afternoon: Distillation Troubleshooting,

Wednesday, October 25 (8am – 12 noon)

Morning: Various topics: Energy, Control, Fouling

Course Location
The course will be held in Room 1.108/1.110 of the MCC Building located on the corner of Braker Lane and Highway 1 (MoPac) in Austin, Texas. Map.

Attendance Policy
A 90% attendance rate is required in order to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and certificates of completion.

Cancellation Policy
A full refund, less a $100.00 processing fee, will be given for all cancellations or transfers if notification is received on or before two weeks prior to the beginning of the course. Refunds will not be given for cancellations received after this date. Substitutions may be made anytime prior to the first day of class. The CLEE programs are subject to cancellation if too few people enroll, in which case a full refund will be given.
