ERCOT Energized: the good, the bad, and the ugly of the new Texas Nodal Market Design

Floyd James Trefny

Floyd James Trefny, PE received his degree of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and his Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston in 1972 and 1979 respectively. Mr. Trefny joined Houston Lighting & Power Co. in 1973 and has held engineering and management positions in power system operation and dispatch and has over 37 years of experiences in power system operations. Mr. Trefny is currently the Director of Wholesale Market Design for Reliant Energy’s regulatory group. Mr. Trefny developed many of the concepts and protocols of the current Wholesale and Retail Markets in ERCOT as well as the new Texas Nodal Market while representing Reliant Energy. He is a current contributor to ERCOT’s Transition Planning Task Force that is supporting ERCOT in the implementation of the approved Texas Nodal Protocols.

Mr. Trefny is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas.
