Solar Cells and Cell Phones: An Exlporation of Two High Growth Semiconductor Markets
This talk will explore two of the fastest growing markets for semiconductor devices in the world today: photovoltaics and mobile communications. It will trace the origins and growth of these two markets and point out some of the similarities and differences in areas such as underlying technology, economics, government regulation, and impact on society. And it will point to what might be expected in these two markets in the future. It will also touch on the important role that Austin and the State of Texas play in these two exciting technologies.
Paul Ballentine
Paul Ballentine manages cellular strategy for the Wireless and Mobile Systems Group of Freescale Semiconductor where he is responsible for long range planning and product roadmap alignment. Prior to joining Freescale/Motorola Semiconductor, Paul held Sr. management positions in two semiconductor equipment start up companies and began his career as a research engineer at United Technologies/Carrier. Paul holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, a MS in Mechanical Engineering, and a BS in Physics.
