TOEFL Scores
Applicants who attended school outside of the U.S.
The Software Engineering Master's Program requires all international applicants to complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The following information will walk you through the score requirements, time limit, requesting a waiver to this requirement, test schedules, and test center locations.
- An official score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)is required. A score of 550 (paper test) or 213 (computer-based test) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is considered the minimum acceptable for admission to the University of Texas at Austin.
- TOEFL scores can be no more than two years old from the month/year of the test date.
- If you hold bachelor's degrees from a U.S. institution or from an institution in another English-only speaking country, you may request a waiver of the TOEFL.
- Applicants from the following countries do not need to submit a TOEFL score: American Samoa, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada (except Quebec), Dominica, Grenada, Grand Cayman, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Liberia, New Zealand, Sierra Leone, Trinidad/Tobago, United Kingdom, and U.S. Pacific Trust.

obtained from U.S. consulates or binational cultural centers in many
countries or from the TOEFL website.
