1. When does the program begin and when should I apply?
Applications are accepted year round and are processed as they are received. Decisions are made as quickly as possible. Early application is strongly encouraged.
Software Engineering - The program begins each Spring and Fall with an orientation session in January and August respectively. The deadline for receiving Spring applications is December 1; however, rolling admission, as space permits, is December 15. Fall applications are accepted until July 1st with rolling admission, as space permits, through July 15th.
2. What are the requirements for entry into the program?
- Hold a BS degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in upper-division undergraduate and any graduate coursework.
- Completion of the GRE test. Test scores may not be older then five years.
- Submit three letters of recommendation, one of which must be from your current employer.
- Have a minimum of 18 months of industry experience.
- Have strong skills in programming languages such as C++ and JAVA.
International students only
- Have a minimum total Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 (paper test) or 213 (computer assisted test). Scores may not be over two years old per ETS records.
(If you are an International student who graduated with a bachelor’s degree from a US accredited university, the TOELF test score is not required)
- Obtain a work Visa in order to participate in the CD Program. Please contact the International Office for additional information regarding this requirement.
(The SE program does not provide or obtain work Visa’s for International students)
3. Do I have to take the GRE test as part of my application to the program?
Yes, applicants are required to submit GRE test scores. Test scores must be sent electronically to The University Graduate and International Admissions office from the testing center. Test scores should not be older than five years old.
4. How much does the program cost?
The total fee for the Software Engineering Program for two years is $34,000 ($17,000 per year). Please see the Financial Information Section regarding fees and payment schedules.
5. What are the requirements for International admissions to the program?
International applicants must be employed full-time in industry while in the program; must be on a work Visa while in the program; must meet all of the UT admissions criteria for application to the program; must submit all of the programs admissions materials to the department; and, must have at least 18 months industry experience.
