Chadi El Mohtar

Prof. El Mohtar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. His areas of expertise include permeation grouting, ground improvement, laboratory testing of soil and rock, rheological and filtration testing of grouts and site remediation. His research and consulting work involves engineering grouts and suspensions to optimize its effectiveness for site-specific field conditions. Particularly, his work focuses on advancing the fundamental understanding of viscous flow within soils and fractures through relating rheological and filtration properties of fluids and suspensions to the mechanical and hydraulic characteristics of soils. Prof. El Mohtar has served as principal investigator/Co-principal investigator on externally funded projects in excess of $2.0M. He has supervised more than 35 PhD, Master's and undergraduate students during his tenure at UT. He is the author/co-author of more than 40 technical papers, conference proceedings and major reports. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of ASCE Grouting committee and a member of ASCE Soil Properties and Modeling and ASTM D18.05 and D18.09 committees. Prof. El Mohtar has received multiple awards including the NSF CAREER Award, ASCE Casagrande Professional Development Award, among others.
