77 Papers Featured at 19TH International Engineering Management Conference July 29 - Aug. 1, 2007

Austin, Texas -- June 25, 2007 -- The 19th International Engineering Management Conference (IEMC 2007) today announced 77 papers will be presented at the event which will be held at the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort and Spa. The conference features 53 oral sessions, 24 poster sessions and the World of Engineering Expo, bringing together more than 400 engineering and management professionals, engineering students, technology enthusiasts, academia, local and state government representatives.

The IEMC 2007 agenda will focus on best ways to use the human side of creativity, innovation, and change management to address corporate revitalization and growth. A unique quality of this year's program is the Reach for the Star track is focused on attendees, spouses, and kids with the goal of encouraging and maintaining children's interest in science and mathematics. Highlights include a LEGO® MINDSTORMS® challenge where kids use LEGOs to build robots that move from sound, touch, and light sensors. Additional engineering activities for children include bumper cars, line follower, ferris wheel, ping pong ball launcher and a Tiger Woods Challenge.

The selection committee reviewed 164 papers submitted from engineering and management professionals around the world. "This year's selection committee was inundated with quality papers and topics that will fuel a challenging and robust program," Dr. Walt Trybula, Program Chair and Director of the Nanomaterials Application Center at Texas State University-San Marcos. "Attendees can expect to find a wide variety of opportunities from innovative strategies for improving management approaches to fostering growth and interest in science within technology community, among peers and at home."

The conference opens on Sunday with half and full-day tutorials free for conference attendees that examine IP management, dynamics of complex project management and strategies for outsourcing. Sunday's schedule also provides an opportunity for the IEEE Engineering Management Society chapter chairs to convene.

The remainder of the program incorporates general sessions, such as keynotes and panel sessions and 21 paper sessions aligned into the following tracks:

• New Stars track focused on managing engineering projects
• Creative Class track which focuses on the growth of the creative class and the role of universities in developing communities
• Reach for the Stars track covering how to develop and foster creative minds for science and technology as well as balancing work-life and family-life
• GOLD (IEEE Graduates Of the Last Decade) track highlighting how to make the transition from engineer to manager
