Airport Planners learn how to keep Airport noise at a minimum and be a good neighbor to surrounding residents
New UT Austin continuing engineering education program on airport noise and air quality models scheduled for July
AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Texas at Austin's College of Engineering announced today that, due to popular demand, they have added a new offering to the popular Airport Short Course Series - Airport Noise and Air Quality Models. This training will be held in Austin, TX and is one of the most popular public airport training courses on the market.
"Austin, like many other growing cities, has experienced recent airport noise concerns with ABIA's new location," said Cath Polito, Executive Director of the Center for Lifelong Engineering Education. "This forward-looking course teaches airport planners two FAA environmental models in a single sitting. Planners will not only learn how to measure and calculate airport noise but will also be able to pinpoint future noise concerns and address them at an early stage of planning. The end result is a more efficient airport and happier neighboring communities."
This three-day course addresses the measurement, calculation, and analysis of aircraft noise using the FAA Integrated Noise Model (INM) and the FAA Emissions Dispersion Modeling System (EDMS). Attendees will receive a working understanding of acoustical parameters, operational characteristics, and the technical problems and limitations of the INM and EDMS systems. The learning points will be driven home by working example problems using INM and EDMS. Experts in the field, including principal instructor Dr. Michael T. McNerney, P.E., teach through a series of lectures and case studies.
"These are excellent courses for anyone working in the Airport operations or development field," said Thomas W. Foster, PE Manager with Aviation Services, Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. "The University of Texas offers the kind of courses we want our employees to attend."
Airport Noise and Air Quality Models will be held July 18-20, 2005 in Austin, TX at The University of Texas at Austin's Thompson Conference Center. Parking is free to attendees. Early registration on or before June 19, 2005 is $995.00; after that date, registration increases to $1,095. Government employees receive a discounted fee of $895.
