UT's Center for Lifelong Engineering Education receives donation from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics

AUSTIN, March 10, 2006 -- The University of Texas at Austin's Center for Lifelong Engineering Education has received a donation from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics to furnish a new Engineering Executive Classroom. The contribution will be used to establish seating and workspaces for 12 working professionals and one instructor.

"Our College of Engineering is responding to the needs of professional engineers by providing high quality, ongoing education and training," commented Cath Polito, Executive Director of the Center for Lifelong Engineering Education. "Thanks to the generous gift by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, we are able to create an innovative and functional learning environment for those engineers."

Located on the first floor of the Continuing Engineering Education Building, the Engineering Executive Classroom serves as the location for engineers and technical practitioners attending the Center for Lifelong Engineering Education and Software Quality Institute's short courses and certificate programs. Welcoming its first class on February 27, 2006, the Engineering Executive Classroom is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and is expected to add to the Center's innovative services, outstanding staff, and customer-friendly environment.

This contribution is not the first time Lockheed Martin Aeronautics has partnered with UT's College of Engineering. In 2004, Lockheed Martin was honored with the College of Engineering's Texas Service Award for providing key sponsorship of the "How to Work EXPO" workshops in 2002 and 2003. Lockheed Martin also sponsors the Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems Award for Excellence in Engineering Teaching. This award is given out yearly and is the highest teaching honor given by the College of Engineering.

A plaque presentation was held on Saturday, February 25, 2006. Those present included Daniel J. Crowley, President of Lockheed Martin's Information Systems Business; Dr. David Dolling, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for the College of Engineering; and Cath Polito, Executive Director for the Center for Lifelong Engineering Education.
